Marcus Satterfield

–Said Saturday was very disappointing with production, execution. Thought South Carolina had a good week of practice.

–Not sure where the disconnect was from a good week of practice to the field. Thought the guys strained well but it just didn’t show up on Saturday.

–Asked about tipping plays, thinks Missouri’s done a good job scouting them. Zeb Noland and a few of the other GAs did a good job figuring out some of the tendencies South Carolina needs to break.

–Asked about Jaheim Bell, said they have different personnel groupings for different parts of the field, etc. Said they really only had four drives in the first half and couldn’t really set up anything. Weren’t able to get to a lot of the plays they wanted to get to.

–There’s always things that could have been better. Said it was one of those days where nothing went right offensively. Said they were in “rally mode” early being down so quick and trying to get chunk plays. Looking back, he probably got into that mode too early and would have liked to stick to the game plan a little more and string together drives.

–Jaheim Bell is one of Satterfield’s players on the team. Said he should have slowed down and stopped and got Jaheim Bell more involved. They’re going to continue to try and put him spots to get the ball. When he does, he’s “special.”

–Got to be a “real thick dropback” game and trying to slow down the pass rush with the screen game.

–Think they’ve done all they can offensively. Thinks they’ve showed flashes and will keep trying to maximize the offensive potential.

–Lloyd is someone who can break off big runs frequently. When you lose MarShawn it can be tough.

–With a thin and banged up running back room, it’s “all hands on deck” in the run game. Mentions Legette, Joyner, Doty, Bell, etc. as guys who could potentially have the ball in their hands.

–Juju McDowell is going to try and run through the tackles when asked. Can’t sustain a game with him doing that.

–Rattler was laughing about his comments about not knowing what to do being what Satterfield called misinterpreted. Said pretty emphatically that Rattler knew what the game plan was and what to do.

Clayton White

–They’ve met as a team multiple times to talk about knowing how teams are going to attack them and having to adjust on the fly. Wasn’t proud of how the team adjusted to that and have to be better in terms of that and playing team defense.

–Guys have to be smarter when they’re on the field to have their eyes in the right spot and understand if a team is going through misdirection plays. They got better as the game goes on but team was “sick” in terms of watching that film Sunday. Said they have to be better coaching it in practice.

–They emphasize tackling every week. No team is going to do full tackling drills each week but South Carolina does tackle on Tuesday. Said they have to emphasize rallying to the ball just in case there is a missed tackle.

–Brad Johnson is back in practice and having a good week. Said he was proud of how Debo Williams performed in practice. Said physicality is part of his game and you saw that.

–Said it’s frustrating when teams are stringing together drives. They emphasize not allowing big plays and did that but MIssouri made a few big plays on third down. Guys were in spots to make plays but didn’t. They hurt the offense on those two drives. Responsibility as a defense is to give the offense the ball back.

–Vanderbilt is really improved team. Been impressed with AJ Swann on film. Wright is “dynamic” and can make plays in the run game too. Will Sheppard can “beat you” and have bowling-ball running backs. It’s a good squad when you watch them and excited to go to Nashville and try to take care of business.

–RPOs make things harder for defenses and officials and defensive ends. Makes coaching and scheming harder. It’s a chess match. You have to coach the linebackers and defensive ends to get their hands up and the cornerbacks that every play is a pass.

–Said Vanderbilt runs a lot of two tight end sets so they can’t get caught up in any gadget or motions and then get caught out of position.
