Luke Doty ready to help South Carolina 'whenever my name is called'
As a versatile redshirt senior on offense, Luke Doty recognizes that although his playing time is currently limited, his main focus is to do whatever best benefits the team.
Doty was awarded the 2024 spirit award, highlighting his selflessness on and off the field.
His journey with South Carolina football has been nothing short of unique. However, Doty has not lost track of putting the team’s goals over his own.
“I’m just ready whenever my name is called,” Doty said. “Thankfully, we’ve got a lot of guys that can go out and make plays. I’m just one of them.”

In 2020, when Doty joined the Gamecocks, he was a quarterback. However in 2024, Doty is on the roster as an athlete, showing his versatility and adaptability. He’s mainly used as a wide receiver these days.
This season, Doty has appeared in all four games but has not recorded any stats. The depth of South Carolina’s offense at every position makes for tough competition within the team. So, he’s seen more time on special teams.
“That’s what’s really cool about this team is that we’ve got guys at every single position that can go make plays,” Doty said. “You look at the stat sheet and obviously stats don’t really matter but you’ve got catches from a number of guys not just maybe one or two.”
Including Doty, the Gamecocks have six quarterbacks, including young star LaNorris Sellers. South Carolina also has 15 available wide receivers leaving both rooms full of depth and competition.

In a situation where many players might be upset about not playing, Doty continues to show why he is a selfless player.

“You’ve got runs from multiple different running backs and quarterbacks so I think it’s just really cool that thats the kind of team we have this year,” Doty said.
Last season, Doty recorded just two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. In addition, Doty was good for 123 receiving yards in 12 games played in 2023.
Despite his lack of contribution this year, Doty has kept his head held high with the Gamecocks 3-1 thus far in 2024.
“We can put anybody out there on the field and we can trust them to go make plays and have success out there,” Doty said.
