Episode 4 of our new podcast series with ⁦Gamecock great Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina student Nick Klos & myself on BLEAV is live. Whether it be with high school prospects or through the transfer portal, it’s no secret that in his short time as head coach at South Carolina, Shane Beamer and his coaching staff have been relentless when it comes to recruiting.

That doesn’t surprise former Gamecock running back Marcus Lattimore, who shared on his latest podcast that when USC was recruiting him of out high school, Beamer played a vital role with his commitment to the Gamecocks.

“He knew who he was recruiting. Well-informed on who the person was (and who) the family was,” explained Lattimore. “I think what sticks out and will always stick out about coach Beamer is his energy and his passion. When he talks to you he looks you in the eye. You believe him. Like you truly believe him.”

“The big thing is he’s just well-informed. He knew who you were and made you comfortable. That right there in itself, the level of care, the level of attention he had for whoever he was recruiting, that’s what comes off to me.”

Since Beamer was named head coach in December of 2020, the son of College Football Hall of Fame coach Frank Beamer has shared his love for being at South Carolina. That love didn’t just happen overnight and Lattimore felt that going back to his days as an assistant.

“His knowledge of the school as well, that kind of came off (too). Him as a person, just whatever he does, it’s 100 percent. You leave, whether you’ve never been to South Carolina, whether you know coach Beamer or not, you leave impressed. Like the girlfriend on the trip (with you) leaves impressed with coach Beamer.”
