Marcus Lattimore: What Nyckoles Harbor will experience on his visit to South Carolina
There’s something special about having a five-star prospect visit your campus. Maybe it’s because there’s only 21 five-stars currently rated by On3 for the class of 2023. Or maybe it’s the hope that it creates amongst a fanbase and program.

It wasn’t that long ago that Marucs Lattimore was a highly touted five-star recruit coming out of Byrnes High School. With five-star prospect Nyckoles Harbor set to visit South Carolina this weekend, Lattimore knows first-hand that his visit won’t be like every other recruit.
“Of course his experience is gonna be different (than other recruits),” said Lattimore. “Not that we’re gonna create an experience for all these other recruits who are gonna be there that isn’t top-notch. Everybody’s experience is gonna be top-notch. But, you make a statement across the country when you land a five-star. It’s just the psychology of fans and the psychology of everybody that watches football. Because once you land that you’re making news across college football. That’s important. That’s important whether you want it to be or not as a coach. You can say, ‘I don’t care about all of that,’ the coaches care about that. That’s just put in a different category.”

“Everybody knows who you are when you land in Columbia, SC. That’s just a fact. From the airport to restaurants to the basketball game (if there was one). They’re chanting your name. Everybody is gonna know who he is because we get googly-eyed over a five-star. I get googly-eyed over a five-star and if I saw him I’d do the same thing. You land A’ja Wilson who was a five-star. You land Aliyah Boston who was a five-star. Everybody knows who they are. So his experience is gonna be completely different once he steps on campus.”

Regarded as one of the top players in the country for the class of 2009, Lattimore had the opportunity to visit South Carolina’s campus several times throughout his recruitment. With this weekend being Harbor’s first time at USC, Lattimore feels like it couldn’t be coming at a better time.
“With it being a Georgia game, he’s gonna have a good time. They’re gonna take care of him and his family. The atmosphere is just different when you bring in your rival. It’s Williams-Brice at its best and in its top form. The game is gonna be sold out and the energy is gonna be building all day long. It’s something you just can’t recreate.”
