Mazeo Bennett out for the rest of Texas A&M game with injury
Late in the second quarter, Mazeo Bennett Jr. took a hard tackle from Texas A&M’s BJ Mayes after a nine-yard catch. Mayes yanked Bennett down by his helmet, causing the South Carolina freshman to get up a bit wobbly. Following the play, Bennett went to the sideline where he was taken to the locker room by athletic trainers with eight seconds left before halftime, his head and/or neck clearly bothering him.
To start the second half, Bennett was not seen on the sidelines and it was announced he would miss the rest of the game with an injury, per the ABC broadcast. At the moment, his exact injury is unknown. However, head coach Shane Beamer made his displeasure with the play known to sideline reporter Molly McGrath. Beamer lamented the fact that the officials did not throw a flag and said he would be sending the film into the SEC office for review.
Bennett hauled in two of his four targets for 19 yards with a long catch of 10. On the year, Bennett has caught 21 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns.
South Carolina is currently tied at 20 in the third quarter with the Aggies.
