The process moved quickly between South Carolina and new commitment Grant Polk.

Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks offered the Washington (D.C.) St. Alban’s School class of 2025 three-star wing last month, he quickly set an official visit with the school, and then committed to South Carolina shortly after that visit, announcing the pledge on Monday at noon.

“I’m very excited to take the opportunity that Coach Paris gave me,” Polk told GamecockCentral. “I believe it was my best opportunity. I believe it’s a great atmosphere, especially from when I was there on my official. I don’t think I’ve really experienced anything like it before to be honest. But Coach Paris has a lot of faith in me and what I can do that, so I would say that was the main determination of why I’m coming.”

Listed at 6-foot-6, 185-pounds, Polk is a late riser on the recruiting radar but is the type of deadeye outside shooter that Paris covets. Polk finished first in scoring efficiency in the Adidas 3stripes Select Basketball Circuit this summer.

Polk also took an official visit to Florida Gulf Coast and was receiving a push from Virginia Tech and Seton Hall when he chose the Gamecocks.

He was in town for his official visit when the football team hosted Ole Miss.

“I really enjoyed my time there with Coach Paris and the team and watching the football game,” Polk said. “The football game, even though they lost, the atmosphere was very electric to include the tailgating and everybody else that was there. It was obviously my first SEC game. And, it was everything that I heard it would be.”

A big aspect of the visit was learning how he would be used in the South Carolina scheme.

“What I enjoyed probably the most was spending time with Coach Paris because he did a really, really good job showing me like how my skills, my skillset would fit into how they play and how they do everything in South Carolina. I also learned a lot watching the team practice.”

“He really preached to me about how he had faith in me,” Polk said. “And even though this is like my last offer and it was kind of late in the process, he just says that he has faith in me and he believes that what I can do can really impact him there.”

Polk is the fourth South Carolina pledge for the 2025 class, joining Hickory (N.C.) Moravian Prep four-star SG Eli Ellis, Erlanger (Ky.) Lloyd three-star PF EJ Walker, and Greenville (S.C.) Powdersville three-star PF Hayden Assemian.

Polk has not yet been ranked by On3 but is considered a three-star prospect and the No. 71 SF in the class by 247Sports.
