Meechie Johnson, South Carolina still feeling doubted going into SEC Tourney
South Carolina is preparing to play in the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee. With a record of 25-6, the Gamecocks feel they still have things to prove.
Meechie Johnson has established himself as a leader for South Carolina. He heads into his second SEC tournament at the point for the Gamecocks.

Johnson shared insight into what is motivating them this week.
“Still being doubted. People still not believing this still not believing that deserve to be where we at,” Johnson said. They don’t know about us. We try and come out here every game and you’ve got to make a statement.”
The Gamecocks control their own destiny. If they can find a way to win their first round game, a rematch with Auburn awaits. From there, they could have a real shot to win the whole thing.

“Like I said before, we try to take it one game at a time, you know, we understand what’s ahead. We got a good opportunity to win this thing. And that’s what we’re thinking about,” Johnson said. “I mean, if we win it all we probably have a good better see for the tourney in a week or two from now. So right now we’re just focusing on this weekend.”
There is plenty of work left to be done this weekend in Nashville. As daunting as the task at hand may be, the Gamecocks feel prepared for the road ahead.

“It’s been a long season, we had a lot of ups and downs, because that’s what those ups and downs preparing for it. Now, when you’re getting those games where you continue to be who you are,” Johnson said. “I mean, nothing changed from last week, teams has gotten better, but we have too. So like I told Colin, like I told her freshmen, ‘Stay ready, but at the same time we’re built for this, and they’ve all helped and allowed us to get to this point. So we’re gonna need you. Let’s do it together.”
