Gamecocks land another OL commitment
The South Carolina Gamecocks continued building one of the nation’s top recruiting classes for the 2024 cycle, landing a commitment from offensive lineman Mike Williams.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder announced his verbal pledge to Shane Beamer’s program on Wednesday.
“What stood out about South Carolina was their fan base and coaching staff,” Williams told Hayes Fawcett of On3. “ Their fan base is like no other. Even if you aren’t a Gamecock they treat you like family and I loved it. Being able to meet people who are inspired by your game and are huge fans of you is truly amazing. Now the coaching staff aren’t like car salesman. They aren’t trying to sell South Carolina, they’re trying to make sure that you get the best opportunity to better yourself as a man and I respect that.”
Williams joins a USC offensive line class that is among the best in the country. Shane Beamer’s program already holds commitments from four-star Kam Pringle, four-star Josiah Thompson, and three-star Blake Franks.
“I think they’re putting together something great and I could potentially see me being apart of it,” Williams told GamecockCentral.com following his last trip to Columbia.

Now, Williams is indeed a part of that strong offensive line class for the Gamecocks.
The Springdale (Maryland) Flowers product first visited South Carolina back in January, then returned on Saturday to take in the Garnet and Black Game inside Williams-Brice Stadium.
“The trip went great,” Williams said over the weekend. “What stood out was how much they treated you like family down there. My relationship with the coaching staff is great. What’s hard not to like about the guys, they are all characters.”

Current Gamecocks freshman EDGE Desmond Umeozulu is a former high school teammate of Williams’ at Flowers, and the USC staff is also heavily pursuing four-star defensive back Braydon Lee from the program.
The On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of all four major recruiting services, has Williams ranked as the number 91 offensive tackle prospect in the country.
South Carolina offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley has played a substantial role in this recruitment.
“I feel like he’s my real family, you know?” Williams previously said of Teasley. “I can sit down and have a conversation with him even if it has nothing to do with football.”
The 2024 South Carolina recruiting class is currently ranked in the top 10 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
