Myles Stute out 'indefinitely' as South Carolina prepares to face Alabama on Wednesday
Coming off a rough 35-point loss to Mississippi State over the weekend, South Carolina will look to bounce back when it hosts No. 5 Alabama on Wednesday. But the Gamecocks will have to do so without one of their regular starters.
Senior small forward Myles Stute has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game, per the SEC’s student-athlete availability report. It turns out his status moving forward isn’t looking too good. The team announced on Tuesday Stute has been “diagnosed with a left lower leg deep vein thrombosis (blood clot)” and will be out indefinitely.
Stute is coming off a game in which he only scored one point on 0-of-4 shooting in the team’s 85-50 loss in Starkville.
In his second season with the program, Stute is averaging 5.4 points on 33.3 percent shooting from the field. He’s started in all 14 of South Carolina’s games so far this season.

Alabama will also be down a key player for this game, though it’s been that way for a little while now. Latrell Wrightsell Jr., who is out for the year with an achilles tendon injury, is listed as “out” on the Crimson Tide’s injury report.

During the offseason, the SEC approved a new policy that mandates availability reports for conference games. The reports will be required for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. For football, teams submit reports on Wednesday and then update them each day until a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports will be submitted the evening before a game and then updated on game day.
The availability reports will use designations such as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful,” and “out” to describe how likely it is that a particular player will suit up for the next conference game. On game day, those designations will shift to “out” or “game-time decision.” The reports model professional sports leagues’ injury reports.
South Carolina and Alabama will tip-off at 7 p.m. from Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday night. The game can be viewed on SEC Network.
