There’s a new live in-person show coming to Columbia this fall that will feature some of your favorite Gamecock student-athletes.

Garnet Nights Unplugged, a players’ show version of the popular coaches show, Carolina Calls, will take place every Monday this season at the new CB18 Bar and Grill in Five Points. Starting on August 28, the show will feature a Gamecock football player, as well as additional guests from other South Carolina athletic programs.

“From day one, CB18’s mission has been to be a HOME for all Gamecocks fans,” said CB18 co-owner Jeff O’Hara, better known on social media as ‘Cocks By 90.’ “We wanted to create a place that could give our Gamecocks fans unique experiences like they’ve never had before. Garnet Nights Unplugged is exactly that. Nowhere else that I can recall has had a live players show like we’re going to have. I’ve enjoyed going to the coaches call-in shows over the years and the idea to try and recreate one with our players where we can get to know them on a more personal level will be a fun time for everyone who comes out.”

Through the Garnet Trust and CB18, Gamecock student-athletes who are guests on the show will benefit through NIL. The chance to help Gamecock student-athletes is one of the main reasons why O’Hara and CB18 wanted to get involved.

“We’re going to do special deals with the new Garnet Trust Sandstorm Game Day Lager by Steel Hands and give a percent back to the players who are the guests that week. We plan to get creative with fun giveaways for people who show up where they can win autographed memorabilia from the players that night. We also have a few more fun tricks up our sleeves that we’ll announce at these shows.”

Gamecock Central‘s Director of Digital Content and two-time Emmy-award winning sportscaster Mike Uva will host the weekly show that will be held on Monday night’s from 7-8. South Carolina running back Dakereon Joyner will be the first guest on Garnet Nights Unplugged. The sixth-year senior will look ahead to Week 1 against UNC, share what life has been like as a new father, and much more.

“It goes perfect with our half-off wing night and will run you straight into Monday Night Football. It’s getting me pumped up just talking about it. I can’t wait for all fans to get here and enjoy these shows!”

In addition to a weekly football student-athlete guest, they’ll also be a non-football student-athlete each week. The additional guest for August 28 will be announced in the coming days. Fans who are in attendance will also have an opportunity to ask questions to student-athletes and the host.

Unlike Carolina Calls, Garnet Nights Unplugged will not stream live. The two reasons for this are to one, encourage people to come out to the shows, since the more people there will hopefully lead to the student-athletes receiving more NIL money from the money raised those nights by CB18. Two, to protect the student-athletes, much like how South Carolina doesn’t live-stream press conferences of Gamecock student-athletes.

The plan is to re-air portions of theses shows later on in the week. Gamecock Central will have an update on where and when you can catch those re-airs of the shows.

“We’re very thankful for everyone’s support so far with CB18 and look forward to seeing everyone on the 28th.”
