Nyck Harbor runs new personal best, wins 100m at Weems Baskin Invitational
South Carolina dual-sport athlete Nyck Harbor continues to shine on the track.
On Saturday, the freshman won the men’s 100-meter at the Weems Baskin Invitational with a time of 10.24. That came after running a personal best 10.16 in his first heat.
Earlier this week, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer shared how much time his wide receiver will be spending with the football program this spring.

“His primary focus right now is track and trying to win championships for our track team,” said Beamer. “And then there’s also the summer Olympics coming up as well, which I do believe is a very real possibility for him, potentially.”
But that doesn’t mean Harbor isn’t appearing at South Carolina practices. This past Tuesday, Harbor was observing parts of the Gamecocks first spring practice alongside Beamer.

“He’ll be with football when it doesn’t interfere with track and when it doesn’t interfere with his class schedule,” Beamer added. “We won’t have him out there necessarily practicing and getting hit where it prevents him from running in a track meet on Saturday. We don’t want that.”

The dual-sport athlete caught 12 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman for Beamer’s football program in 2023. He was the highest-ranked prospect for the Gamecocks’ 2023 recruiting class and returns as one of South Carolina’s most product wide receivers. The On3 Industry Ranking – a weighted average of all four major recruiting services – rated Harbor as the 21st-best football prospect in the country and as the nation’s number-one athlete.
In addition to Harbor’s performance, the Gamecocks were running fast across the board. Cynteria James ran a program and and facility record of 11.01 in the 100m finals while Aalliyah Francis clocked a 22.92 in the women’s 200m. Anthony Greenhow set a new program record running a 10.01 in the 100m, which advanced him to the 100m final with Harbor.
