South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor is expected to be a full participant in spring football practice for the Gamecocks this year, GamecockCentral has learned.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for the possibility when Harbor skipped the indoor track season to focus on football’s winter workouts.

But GamecockCentral has now confirmed that Harbor will also skip the outdoor season, which begins this week. It will be his first true spring practice with South Carolina after only watching last year while he went through the track season and prepared for a possible Olympic run.

The chance to go through winter workouts and now spring practice with the football team could be huge for the 6-foot-5, 235-pound speedster.

The former five-star athlete secured a career-high 26 catches for 376 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore during the 2024 season.

Most importantly, he appeared to make major strides as a receiver during the second half of the season.

Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer spoke in January on the potential upside of Harbor spending more time around the football team when it first broke that Harbor would skip the indoor season but his comments still apply, maybe even more so, to the fact that Harbor will skip outdoor and go through spring ball.

“He’s solely focusing on football right now and that was Nyck’s decision,” Beamer said in January. “That was something that he talked to us about. We had some conversations around the bowl, after the bowl, within the last couple of weeks, as far as what he wanted to do.

“I think he realized that he did a lot of good things in track last year but missing spring practice — I don’t want to say set him back, but it was more of a challenge to be ready for the season. I think he just wanted to really focus on football, not that track is over but right now, that’s where his focus is, is just football.”

South Carolina’s first spring practice is set for Wednesday at 9:43 a.m.
