When South Carolina faces Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 5, it will not be under the lights. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN, the SEC announced on Monday.

This will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two teams. The Gamecocks have had to make two trips to Oxford, winning 48-44 in 2018 and losing 59-42 in 2020.

This will be the Rebels’ first trip to Columbia since 2009, a game where South Carolina pulled off a 16-10 upset win over then-No. 4 Ole Miss.

So far this season, Ole Miss is off to a strong start and expected to be in the heat of the College Football Playoff race. In head coach Lane Kiffin’s fifth season, the Rebel offense has outscored opponents 220-22. But the schedule hasn’t exactly been tough so far, beating Furman, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest and Georgia Southern, respectively.

Ole Miss will have one more game to play before the team heads to South Carolina. It will welcome in Kentucky with a chance to start out 5-0.

One of the main storylines heading into this matchup will be a familiar face returning to Williams-Brice Stadium. Juice Wells, a star wide receiver at South Carolina from 2022-23, will play his first game against his former team now as a member of Ole Miss. In two seasons with the Gamecocks, Wells hauled in 71 passes for 965 yards and seven touchdowns.

After an injury-riddled ’23 campaign, Wells is seemingly back to full strength and has played in all four of the Rebels’ games this season. So far, the senior receiver has caught 14 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns.

Even with Wells leaving in the transfer portal, South Carolina has been playing relatively well without him. The Gamecocks are entering their bye week with a 3-1 record and coming off a 50-7 win over Akron on Saturday.
