MORE on Georgia vs South Carolina: South Carolina announces sellout for Georgia game

By Collyn Taylor

Shane Beamer urged South Carolina fans earlier this week to come out and make Williams-Brice a raucous atmosphere and it appears like they heard him.

The Gamecocks announced Thursday afternoon Saturday’s game against top-ranked Georgia is officially a sellout.

It marks the second sellout of Williams-Brice to begin the season.

“I know there are a lot of people who wanted this to be a night game. Frankly, no one cares. It’s a noon game. So we set the standard for what Williams-Brice Stadium should be like against Georgia State,” Beamer said.

“We’re not all of a sudden going to be less than that on Saturday at noon because we’re disappointed it’s not a night game. We have a great opportunity for our fan base to show the entire country on national television what Williams-Brice Stadium and a game day at South Carolina is like.”

The Gamecocks will have a massive recruiting weekend headlined by five-star prospect Nyckoles Harbor and include some high-level in-state talent in the 2024 class as well.

“If you follow recruiting at all at Carolina you know how important this recruit this weekend is from a recruiting standpoint and the fantastic young men we’re going to have on campus,” Beamer said.

“We have to do our part as a football team, coaches and players. We’re working really, really hard to do that. But we need our fan base to do their part as well on Saturday. Knowing what I know about Gamecock nation I have no doubt we will.”

It’s also a chance, Beamer said, to create a home field environment against a Georgia team that hasn’t been to a capacity Williams-Brice Stadium since 2018.

“This will be the first time Georgia has played a true away game this year as well. We need to make it really, really difficult and uncomfortable,” Beamer said. “We need to make sure that’s an asset for us. Arkansas was a great environment last Saturday at 11 a.m. central. Sure as hell we can make a noon start really, really intense and awesome on Saturday afternoon.”

The Gamecocks haven’t beaten Georgia since the epic 2019 upset in Athens. The last South Carolina win at home came in 2014, a 38-35 win.

South Carolina’s last upset over a No. 1 team came 12 years ago against Alabama at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Kickoff Saturday is scheduled for noon on ESPN. Todd Blackledge, Sean McDonough and Molly McGrath will be on the call.
