Oscar Adaway III shows veteran athleticism despite loss and offensive struggles
Despite suffering another SEC loss, sixth-year Oscar Adaway III tried to lead the South Carolina offense. As a veteran in the running back soon, Adaway showed off his athleticism and skill against the Rebels.
Although Raheim ‘Rocket’ Sanders was available for the game, the running back has struggled with injury. As a result, Adaway found out during Friday’s walk-through that he would be getting the start against the Rebels.

“I didn’t know until I think walk-through Friday. Coach came up to me and told me so I was just like ‘Thanks’,” Adaway said.
After spending five years in North Texas with the Mean Green, Adaway joined the squad back in January. However, the depth of South Carolina’s running back room has limited Adaway’s playing time.
As a Gamecock, the running back has recorded 81 yards on 29 carries. He recorded the most yardage against Akron with 42 yards on 14 carries.

Adaway ended the game against Ole Miss recording 34 yards on nine attempts. Behind quarterback LaNorris Sellers, Adaway recorded the second most rushing yards.

“We did good we were just shooting ourselves in the foot. But it was all good,” Adaway said.
Offensively, South Carolina struggled to keep up with the Ole Miss defense. Adaway’s yardage was affected by the Gamecocks’ lack of red zone success throughout the game.
“They’re a really good defense, obviously. They knew they were going to be a challenge up front to block and they got really good players. The game plan was we are who we are on offense. We run some triple option, we get the ball on the perimeter, we run the football, we take shots downfield. We wanted to be able to get the ball out of LaNorris’ hands and get the ball in space to our guys,” head coach Shane Beamer said.
