The South Carolina football team had a tough test ahead of them when preparing to face top-ranked Georgia at Sanford Stadium. A tough test is exactly what the Bulldogs gave the Gamecocks on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

South Carolina had a positive start to the game and headed into halftime with a 14-3 lead. Despite this, a sluggish second half contributed greatly to the Gamecocks’ eventual 24-14 defeat.

“They second half, you give Georgia credit,” Shane Beamer said. “But we had four keys to this game and one of them was to make them earn it. We didn’t do a good enough job of making them earn it.”

Through it all, GamecockCentral’s Chris Gillespie was on hand to capture the action from Athens. From touchdown celebrations to action-packed plays, here are some of his best shots from the game.

“They’re a championship team and they beat us in the second half. But we helped them in a lot of ways as well. Which is frustrating,” Beamer said. “I’m proud of the fight. One of our sayings around our program is stay in the fight and we stayed in the fight today.”

South Carolina injury report

South Carolina lost one of its best wide receivers one drive into the game Saturday, and Shane Beamer updated his injury and a few others after Saturday’s game.

Gamecocks receiver Juice Wells will see a specialist on Tuesday and will have a prognosis after that. They don’t believe it can be season-ending and that Wells will be able to potentially return this season.

Wells scored a touchdown on the Gamecocks’ opening drive but left the game right after that, having to be carted off the field and not putting any weight on his foot.

Beamer said at halftime South Carolina feared he broke a bone in his foot. Wells missed almost all of the preseason and most of the first two games of the season dealing with a lower-body injury.

Tyreek Johnson got banged up last week at the end of the game against Furman. Beamer also mentioned they’re hopeful JT Geer, Markee Anderson and Ahmarean Brown will be available next week.

South Carolina lost on the road to Georgia Saturday, squandering a 14-3 halftime lead.
