Photos & Story: Gamecocks leave it all on the field

South Carolina Softball’s season concluded on a overcast Sunday afternoon at Beckham Field.
Just one win away from the Women’s College World Series, the Gamecocks could taste it. One swing on Saturday and the momentum shifted. South Carolina returned on Sunday with their best in the circle in Sam Gress. A leader and a bulldog she gave everything she had, as did the rest of the team. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.
Nearly a year ago Ashley Chastain Woodard was hired at the new Head Coach of the program. She set the bar high while also allowing the team to be themselves. The historic success the program this season has now set the tone as the Gamecocks move forward. “It set the expectations for us and transformed the way people look at South Carolina,” said Lexi Winters.
The sun started to peak through the clouds just before 7 p.m., the stadium was quiet. Down on the field the group of Gamecock Seniors embraced one another and took in the final moments of the 2025 season and their collegiate careers. Leaving their cleats at their positions, they left it all on the field.
