South Carolina women’s basketball hosted Coppin State on Thursday night for its home opener.

The Gamecocks defeated the Eagles, 92-60, improving to 3-0 on the season. This was South Carolina’s 60th straight win at home. MiLaysia Fulwiley led all scorers with 23 points.

After Coppin State took a 16-13 lead on Lawrence’s 3-pointer with 2:33 to play in the opening quarter, South Carolina closed the period with a 10-0 run. The Gamecocks continued in the second quarter and ran the lead to 18 after Bree Hall’s 3-pointer.

South Carolina did what it does best: overwhelm opponents on the boards. The Gamecocks outrebounded Coppin State 51-23.

Gamecock Notables

The win marked South Carolina’s 41st straight overall, 60th straight at home, and 75th consecutive in regular-season action.

The Gamecocks out-rebounded the Eagles 51-23, and the South Carolina bench outscored Coppin State 48-15.

South Carolina ran away with the game in the third quarter, going on a 20-3 run that spanned seven minutes.

Five Gamecocks scored in double digits for the first time this season. At least five scored in double figures in 19 of last season’s 38 games.

Chloe Kitts had another dominant game, finishing with her second double-double of the season, adding 10 boards to her 19 points.

Sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley recorded a season-high 23 points, just one shy of her career-high mark, after going 4-for-7 behind the arc, with half coming in the final quarter.

Senior Te-Hina Paopao netted 13 on the night, tying a season-high three 3s.

Newcomers Joyce Edwards and Maryam Dauda had 10 each, including Dauda’s first 3 as a Gamecock.

Freshman Maddy McDaniel made her South Carolina debut and scored her first career points late in the fourth quarter as part of a 6-2 run to end the game.
