Recap: Shane Beamer Sunday night teleconference
Shane Beamer put South Carolina’s loss to Missouri to bed, addressed the offense and much more on his weekly Sunday teleconference.
Here’s a recap of what he had to say:
–Few minutes late getting off the practice field. Good energy from a Sunday practice. Guys were having fun so didn’t want to cut it short.
–Really disappointed about last night and got “a bunch of hurt people” in the building. Said it wasn’t good enough in any phase. Have to be better in all phases. Down 17-0 and run just 11 offensive plays. To finish the game was disappointing too. Punted with 11 minutes to go but defense allowed Missouri to chew up a ton of clock before giving the ball back. Said it was “nowhere good enough.”

–Lloyd has a significant bruise but should be good, Lloyd said. Dawkins will be available.
–Turned it over twice and Missouri didn’t.
–Jaheim Bell wasn’t on the field much and was just what was called. Said they have 10/11/12 personnel with multiple personnel groupings. A lot of packages that were called didn’t have Bell on the field.
–Have to sustain drives offensively. Hit Stogner on the first drive and didn’t advance past that. Didn’t get off to a great start. Whatever they call they have to execute. Have to call plays that give South Carolina the best chance to be successful.
–Just a combination on a few things on not being explosive. Said it wasn’t for a lack of trying and they have to be able to protect when South Carolina dials up shot. They all have a hand in it: head coach, offensive coordinator, tight ends, offensive line, quarterback, receivers, etc.
–No discussion or thought to changing play callers. Said every week they always evaluate the things they do well and don’t do well. They did the same thing last week and did it again this week. You’re always evaluating your team and program and trying to make sure you’re doing what’s best for the team and program. That’s what he always does.

–Asked what it means to coach better, said it starts in practice. They talk about being better every day and that goes for coaches just as much as players. They can coach better regardless of wins or losses.

–Guys didn’t drag today. Had a great Sunday practice. Said the circle has to get “tighter and tighter.” Told the team the same people patting them on the back last week aren’t this week. He gets it. It’s week to week. Said they have a bunch of prideful guys in there.
–Asked what he remembers about last year’s Vandy game, said it was a drastic decision he had to make. Felt like luke Doty wasn’t 100 percent and needed a spark. Had confidence in Zeb Noland to go out there and run a two-minute drill. Thinks back to a play Damani Staley had where he made a TFL on a second down to force a field goal.
–Missouri’s success on third down in the first half really hampered them. The Tigers were on the field a ton and South Carolina couldn’t stay out there.

–With Luke Doty, he understands things now in year two and he’s been a “great sounding board” and has grown a lot physically too. He continues to get better. Asked if there’s a chance for him to play, said they’re constantly evaluating. Luke Doty has played well and Beamer said Spencer Rattler’s played well too.
–Him and Rattler met today to discuss Rattler’s postgame comments about the offense not knowing what to do. Said they had a good talk about it and said there was a good mental week of preparation. Doesn’t think that’ll be an issue moving forward.
