SEC Network analysts high on South Carolina for 2022
Even from an outside perspective, it’s easy to see why there’s been a positive reception to Shane Beamer and the South Carolina program.
Look no further than to an almost overwhelmingly positive response to a social media clip featuring Beamer singing a Soulja Boy song.
The SEC Network crew spoke on it at length Tuesday afternoon, speaking to it as one of the reasons why there’s momentum surrounding the Gamecocks’ program.
“What he does is build a program. He gets guys and people excited about what he’s doing. You want to be a part of it. I don’t know what they’re doing but I want to be at that party,” Roman Harper said.
“When I see that video, I want to be in the background…he’s not afraid to be different. That’s what you have to do if you want to build something and be great.”

Harper continued to praise South Carolina while talking about the head of steam the Gamecocks were able to build off landing Spencer Rattler.
South Carolina has one of the five best portal classes, according to On3, with plenty of impact players also headlined by Rattler.
“When they landed Spencer Rattler, that changed it all. That was ground shaking. Now we got great players that want to come be a part of what we’re doing,” he said. “When you get a great quarterback, just like in high school recruiting, you’re going to get more and more people to come.”

Greg McElroy also echoed a lot of the praise Harper heaped; saying one of the reasons South Carolina is having a good offseason is their ability to zig while others zag.
“They’re riding the wave. I think that’s really important. If you’re at South Carolina you can’t just be like, ‘Well we’re just going to do what Alabama does. We’re going to do what Georgia does.’ No, just be yourself…I really mean that. Do things differently. Be outside the box. Be willing to do things and approach guys,” he said.
“If you’re at South Carolina and you’re recruiting against the likes of Clemson in your own state. Clemson’s already established the culture of being the player-friendly program…now South Carolina’s counter to that is they’re going to be all that at our place but we’re cool. We’re edgy. You get to play in the SEC. I think they’ve done a really good job creating a niche for themselves and it’s been attractive.”

McElroy is also high on South Carolina and the potential around this team.
He said the ceiling is “as high as second in the East” and it’s “more reachable” than some might think.
There are some things to clean up, but the Gamecocks have a chance to certainly build on a seven-win year in 2021.
“What I think is the next step for them, they were not competitive against some of the best teams in college football,” McElroy said. “Go pull off an upset. That’s the next step. Look at their schedule, I’m not saying I’m picking South Carolina to beat Georgia but Georgia better be careful. That place is going to be absolutely bananas.”
