Shane Beamer, Gamecock coaches media availability on July 26, 2023
Following the third annual Birdies with Beamer golf outing in Blythewood, Shane Beamer and South Carolina football coaches met with the media.
Beamer’s media availability was more formal. He spoke at the podium for just over 22 minutes as he looked ahead to fall camp. That was followed by his assistant coaches giving the local media a few moments to ask them questions.
In addition to Beamer’s press conference, below are the interviews I was able to get with assistant coaches. That list includes offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley, and defensive line coach Travian Robertson.

Shane Beamer
- Team will report on Thursday Aug. 3. 1st practice will be on Friday Aug. 4.
- Calls Week 1’s game against UNC a “natural rival.” Went on to say that it’s a state that they’ve had a lot of success with when it comes to recruiting and it has to continue to be.
- They’ll have 38 new players on this year’s roster. Points to the senior leadership to lead by example knowing what the expectations are for this program.
Dowell Loggains
- Outside of Juju McDowell, he hasn’t seen the other running backs play in a game in-person. All unique running backs who will bring something different to the table. Excited to see what they’re able to do in fall camp
- Jokes that every other day he has to tell LaNorris Sellers that “he sucks” because the whole world is telling him how good he is. Sellers is humble, he works hard, and you can tell that football is important to him.

- Says his job for Spencer Rattler this camp is to help him find rhythm when he’s out of rhythm. Feels that Rattler is gonna face two of the top safeties every day in practice (Nick Emmanwori and D.Q. Smith) which will help his game grow tremendously.
Lonnie Teasley
- Will focus on getting players, especially the young guys, reps and stretching guys out. Meaning, having them play multiple positions on the offensive line.
- The communication between him and Loggains keeps growing. They’re constantly talking with one another to make sure they’re on the same page with protection and blocking.
- Have to gel quickly in camp. Have a lot of talented players who either have experience or are new to USC who haven’t played together.
Travian Robertson
- His family wasn’t here with him in Columbia right away so he used that extra time to build relationships with the players the best he could
- Wants players to appreciate the resources they have at USC. Points back to the success they had in the early 2010s without a lot of the new amenities that have been added in recent years

- Feels good to be back in Columbia. Knew when he committed to play for the Gamecocks years ago, it would turn into a forever home. Excited to share this opportunity with his children and family.
