Less than 24 hours after South Carolina put out its first player availability report for the Gamecocks’ matchup with Ole Miss, head coach Shane Beamer provided another injury update on quarterback LaNorris Sellers, running back Rocket Sanders, and wide receiver Jared Brown Thursday night on his call-in show.

After the Wednesday night report listed all three as “questionable,” South Carolina’s fourth-year head coach expressed optimism on Thursday that the trio of starters would be available for Saturday afternoon’s matchup.

“We’ll put out our report at 8:00 tonight, just like the SEC requires us to do …. It will say tonight that Rocket and Jared Brown and LaNorris are all probable, which means they practiced this week and we feel pretty good about their availability on Saturday,” Beamer said.

The Thursday update to the report did indeed list the three starters as probable while freshman DB Kelvin Hunter and offensive lineman Jakai Moore are both now “out.”

Ole Miss listed several key contributors as “questionable” on Thursday’s report including EDGE Princely Umanmielen, defensive tackle JJ Pegues, and running back Henry Parrish — all starters for the Rebels.

Superstar wide receiver Tre Harris was upgraded from questionable to probably on Thursday.

Both Sellers and Brown were injured late in the first half of the LSU game three weeks ago. Sellers, who has an ankle injury, returned for one drive in the second half but did not play the rest of the game—neither suited up versus Akron two weeks ago.

Sanders entered the matchup with the Zips in good health but exited early in the game with an ankle injury.

The SEC recently approved a player availability injury report system for football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.

SEC school personnel must submit availability reports three days before each football game, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes before game time. For basketball and baseball, reports are filed the night before, with an update on game day.

According to the SEC, penalties for inaccurate or late reports will range from $25,000 to $100,000 for football and anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000 for basketball and baseball.

When schools submit injury reports, players will be designated as available, probable, doubtful, and questionable before game day. On game day, designations will be available, game-time decision or out. The model follows injury reports similar to the NFL.
