While in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game on Saturday, Shane Beamer found out he was going to have to hire a new offensive coordinator for the third time in his career at South Carolina.

News came out that Dowell Loggains was hired as the new head coach at Appalachian State. Loggains has been the offensive coordinator at South Carolina since 2023. Before that, Marcus Satterfield was the OC for the first two seasons of Beamer’s tenure in Columbia.

This leaves the fourth-year head coach in a spot, with bowl game prep beginning and the transfer portal opening up, where he might have to make a move in an efficient manner. And it seems he’s already getting to work. But nothing concrete just yet as to what’s next.

“We’re working through some things,” Beamer said on Sunday. “Happy for Dowell and his family for the opportunity he has gotten at App State. He’s excited about that. But it’s obviously still very fresh.”

While Loggains was already in Boone after being hired to meet with his new team, it’s possible that his time in Columbia isn’t complete just yet. The Gamecocks will play Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Loggains could be in a situation where he finishes out the bowl game at South Carolina before officially moving on to App State.

“Certainly have had some preliminary conversations,” Beamer said, “with him in regards to his role and what we’re going to do going forward. But nothing that I want to get into right now.”
