Shane Beamer media availability recap - 4/4

On Tuesday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer met with the media. He recapped how this past weekend’s scrimmage went, as well as his overall thoughts on where the team is, and more.
Below is a link to his press conference in its entirety. What’s also included are a few notes from what Beamer had to say for those who don’t want to watch each video.

- Beamer begins by talking about this past weekend’s scrimmage. Have to be more explosive. Need to be better blocking on the perimeter. Need to convert the deep throws better. Credits the defense for how they looked, despite being thin at DB
- Need to be better this season at putting games away. Felt that was something they struggled with last year.
- Giving the staff and players Easter weekend off
- Will practice Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday that following week before the spring game on the 15th
- DK Joyner, Juju McDowell, and Mario Anderson all looked good at RB in the scrimmage. Is calling it “1A, 1B, 1C” when looking at the depth charts

- Likes where they are on offense right now. Isn’t naive that typically defenses are ahead of the offense this time of the year but with implementing a new offensive, felt like the communication was good. Went back and mentioned the perimeter blocking and said at times it was good but at times it wasn’t. Says that can be said with all three phases
- Progression is what he wants to see these final few few practices of spring. With Easter weekend it’s easier he said to go in the other direction and that’s the challenge he’s putting on his guys.
- Wants to see the upperclassmen continue to get better while underclassmen continue to push the upperclassmen and starters
- He’s in favor of playing another school either before the start of the season in August or in the spring as an “exhibition.” Echoed Hugh Freeze’s recent comments that he’d like to see that happen and then donate the money from the gate to a local charity. Says he’s been wanting this to happen for over 15 years, recalling telling local Columbia reporters the same thing when he was working under Steve Spurrier
- Tonka Hemingway remains out with a lower body injury (non-scrimmage related).
