Shane Beamer provides injury update on Judge Collier and others after South Carolina's big win

After No. 21 South Carolina’s 34-30 win over No. 23 Missouri on Saturday, head coach Shane Beamer shared the latest on some of his injured players from the game.
The most notable injury from the win was to Judge Collier, who didn’t play at all in the second half. With just over six minutes to go before halftime, Collier broke up a pass intended for Missouri receiver Marquis Johnson in the end zone. As the sophomore defensive back jumped in the air to try and make a play, he hit the ground hard and was down for a few minutes.

South Carolina’s training staff was quick to come out and check on Collier, head coach Shane Beamer followed suit shortly after. Collier eventually sat up and then was on his knees. He was able to get on his feet and walk back over to the sideline. But he wouldn’t play another snap on Saturday and was taken to the hospital.
“He had an upper body injury that he felt okay,” Beamer said. “When I walked out to the field to check on him, he felt okay. And then they just wanted to take him to the hospital to check on everything. His parents went with him.”
Beamer reassured that everything is fine with Collier and believes he’ll be okay. When Collier was playing, he proved to be very productive for the Gamecock defense. He finished the game with one tackle and two pass breakups, the other of which came on a third-down play in the first quarter to hold Missouri to a field goal.

Other than Collier, it looks like South Carolina came away in pretty good shape, according to Beamer. However, all three of South Carolina’s tight ends, Josh Simon, Brady Hunt and Michael Smith, were hindered by their own injuries at different points in the game.
“The tight ends, we’ll see,” Beamer said when asked about their status. “Brady’s got a bit of a lower leg injury. Mike Smith’s got an upper body injury. Hopefully they’ll be okay. We’ll know more tomorrow. Simon, I think he’s okay.”
The Gamecocks are now 7-3 (5-3 SEC) on the season. They’ll finish out their final home stand of the season next against Wofford next Saturday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. on ESPN Plus/SEC Network Plus.
