Shane Beamer recaps South Carolina's big recruiting weekend
Shane Beamer urged South Carolina fans to turn out in force for the Gamecocks’ game against Georgia. His reason was a massive recruiting weekend ahead.
The Gamecocks were hosting a massive official visitor in Nyckoles Harbor along with other high-level talents. Beamer wanted an electric atmosphere.
While the result turned into a lopsided loss, Beamer said the returns from a big recruiting weekend were incredibly positive.

“I want to thank the fans for the atmosphere they created. As soon as that game was over we immediately went right back to recruiting. That’s all the recruits could talk about after the game, and that was the atmosphere. We had dinner at a restaurant here in Columbia with two recruits here on their official visits with their families,” Beamer said Sunday night.
“That’s all they could talk about when we were at dinner last night. I was in my office this morning at 8 a.m. with a recruit and did that throughout the morning. That was what constantly came up in my meetings starting this morning at 8 a.m.”
It’s always a risk bringing a high-level prospect on campus for a game against a top-ranked team and ultimately losing big.
But Beamer mentioned while the result might come into play there are other things that take precedence on the official visit.
“I think it’s the relationships, the atmosphere and experience he has. I always worry about when you lose a football game, does that affect you from a recruiting standpoint? And when you perform like we did yesterday and it’s a loss that got out of hand in the second half, you worry about that,” Beamer said.

“I went to dinner last night with a recruit and that’s what he conveyed to me then: ‘It’s a disappointing game but I wanted to see the environment on game day, I wanted to see how you guys meet. I wanted to see my relationship with the other recruits at the game.’ Those guys we’re recruiting know what this program’s about.”

South Carolina also had a swath of prospects in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes on campus as well.
While it was the Gamecocks’ worst loss to Georgia in the series’ history, Beamer mentioned those prospects understand what the Gamecocks are building at South Carolina.
“They know what we’re doing here at Carolina. I can’t wait to get them here as well. Yesterday wasn’t a good day for us. But there’s a lot of really, really, really good days to come,” Beamer said. “We’re going to do it with a bunch of those guys who are in the program now and a bunch of those guys who were sitting in the stands yesterday as recruits.”
Beamer said the positive recruiting weekend was created in large part because of the fan base and the pregame atmosphere.
“I want to thank our fans for the atmosphere they created. That was amazing,” Beamer said. “I had a mom tell me she’s been to a bunch of college football games and never been a part of an environment like the one our fan base created. We appreciate that.”
