As South Carolina goes through its bye week, things are looking pretty good for the program right now.

The Gamecocks, 3-1 on the season, are off to their best start in seven years. And head coach Shane Beamer plans to take full advantage of the momentum generated.

After Wednesday’s team practice concludes, players will be able to go home and rest for the next three days. Then starting on Thursday, the entire coaching staff, including Beamer, will hit the recruiting trail.

“There’s a lot of excitement about Gamecock football right now in the recruiting world and a lot of positive buzz and energy,” Beamer said on Sunday. “We’re really close on a lot of guys right now, so it’ll be great being able to get out into high schools on Thursday and Friday and going to a high school on Thursday and Friday as part of a football team that’s off to their best start since 2017 and has their best football in front of them.”

Over the last few weeks, Beamer has spoken plenty about recruiting interest trending upwards. The Gamecocks hosted a handful of big-time recruits when LSU was in town two weekends ago. Even this past weekend against Akron, a lot of talented players were in attendance.

So the plan for the next two days is simple: go “all over” the map in recruiting. Beamer listed off a number of states that his staff will be visiting to meet with recruits from the high school ranks.

“All 10 of us will be on the road and we’re a little bit of everywhere,” Beamer said. “I mean, we’re always going to start in South Carolina — there’s no question about it. So we’ll have a strong presence in the state of South Carolina, but we’ll be in Florida, we’ll be in Georgia, we’ll be in Virginia, we’ll be in Alabama, we’ll be in North Carolina, and then like I said, all over South Carolina as well.

“Going to see a lot of our top 2025 guys and going to see a lot of our top 2026 guys and beyond as well. So pretty much everyone including myself are different places. There’s going to be some schools that I’ll go to by myself on Thursday and Friday that an assistant coach doesn’t go to. Maybe some schools that I go to, an assistant coach comes with me.”

Even before the bye week, Beamer noted some of his coaches had already been going out to high school games. With another bye week coming up towards the end of October, it will allow for them to get out again without having to plan for a game on that Saturday.

“We were out some this past Friday as well. Marquel Blackwell was out on the road last Friday night. Sterling Lucas was on the road last Friday, Shawn Elliott, Mike Furrey,” Beamer said. “So it’s good being able to get out on Fridays and be visible, particularly when there’s a lot of good things going on right now with our program.”

After Friday, Beamer said both players and coaches will have the day off on Saturday. Then everyone will return to work on Sunday to turn the page towards a new week.

“Everybody needs a day to recharge and rest up a little bit, get around their families,” he said. “And then we’ll be back in here on Sunday and get full speed ahead on Ole Miss.”
