Shane Beamer talks about Spencer Rattler, Juice Wells returning
Between recruiting and the transfer portal, it’s been a hectic offseason for Shane Beamer.
“The season is busy but the minute the season ends is probably the busiest time of the year. And I still don’t feel like I’ve slowed down since the bowl game,” Beamer told reporters during halftime of the men’s basketball game against Auburn Saturday afternoon.
One of Beamer’s biggest tasks was to recruit Spencer Rattler and Juice Wells back for another season. And he did so successfully.
Wells announced he’d be coming back to South Carolina on Jan. 9. Rattler made his decision with a Wolf of Wall Street “I’m not leaving” video one day later.

“Had some great communication and conversations with Spencer and Juice and their families. Along with coach (Dowell) Loggains and coach (Justin) Stepp, they did a great job. Everybody did,” Beamer said. “Like I’ve said all along, just wanted to lay the options out for those guys and wanted to support them in whatever decision they made.”
In Rattler and Wells’ first season together, they linked up for 928 yards and six touchdowns on 68 receptions.
“Thankful that they chose to stay here at Carolina,” Beamer said. “And it adds to the energy that we already created at the end of the season. That just increases it with those two guys coming back.”

Beamer said Loggains, the Gamecocks’ new offensive coordinator, was more involved in bringing Rattler back than he was.
“They spent a lot of time talking. And I think it was Spencer doing his research on Dowell and Dowell talking to Spencer and getting to know each other, talking about the offense. But really just getting to know each other on a personal basis because they’re obviously going to spend a ton of time together,” Beamer said.

Rattler and Wells both stayed in Columbia after the bowl game, which allowed them to get to know Loggains.
“They’ve got to believe in him as a coach, as a person and in what we’re going to do offensively also,” Beamer said.
