Shane Beamer talks recruiting during home football weekend
South Carolina and Shane Beamer subscribe to the ABC theory when it comes to recruiting.
That is the “Always Be ‘Crooting” camp. And because of that Beamer is constantly making pitches for high school prospects to be in Williams-Brice on home Saturdays.
So it stands to reason he did it again previewing the season opener. And South Carolina expects a horde of prospects on campus again Saturday night.

“This is an unbelievable college town. To be able to get out and experience what a college town is like on a Saturday leading into a Saturday night in Columbia. It’s pretty special and a great opportunity,” Beamer said.
“It’s about relationships but certainly recruits see and watch that Gamecock Walk when we arrive. The bigger and more electric and loud and wild and crazy that is the more of an impact that makes on these guys.”
Most of the visitors will come in for the day, getting in before kickoff and spending time with the coaching staff. They get to experience the environment at Williams-Brice.
Beamer made especially sure to mention Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee—schools the Gamecocks compete against in recruiting—don’t have home Saturday games.
What getting on campus for a game, especially one as anticipated as the 2022 season opener, gives the recruits a chance to see what the environment is like.

“It’s a different walk and pregame environment. Then the electricity in the stadium and the way all 80,000 people playing the game for you. It’s truly an asset and home field advantage,” Beamer said.

“Then hopefully playing well and winning helps the experience with the prospects and their family. Then being able for them to see what we’re about as a program and as people as well on game day.”
The prospects get a chance to spend a lot of time with South Carolina’s support staff and coaches.
Beamer makes visiting with recruits a priority, he said. In the hour between arriving to the stadium and pregame warm ups he almost exclusively visits with players.
“When the coaches get to the stadium on Saturday the players are getting dressed and all that, but we as coaches, the first hour before we go to pregame is spent doing nothing but visiting with recruits,” Beamer said.
“I have a locker room office there at the stadium. All I do in there is recruits come in and out and I visit with them and talk. And get to see them for pregame and after the game as well. A lot goes into it and we just be ourselves.”
On3 currently ranks South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class No. 16 nationally with 55 percent of commitments blue-chip players.
