South Carolina football completed its signing day with a media availability with head coach Shane Beamer. He spoke in length about his top signee on Wednesday.

Dylan Stewart is a 5-star plus EDGE recruit and hails from Friendship Collegiate Academy (DC). Stewart’s size is what sets the table. He entered his senior season at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds.

“You can’t have enough of those body types. He’s put together already,” Beamer said. “You see a lot of guys that come in and need a year to develop in the weight room, and I’m not saying he’s ready-made, but body type wise he’s put together and looks the part already.”

Stewart’s athleticism paired with that frame is what makes him so special. He has the potential to terrorize backfields as soon as he gets on campus in January.

“He can rush the passer, there’s no question that we need to generate more pressure on the quarterbacks next season. We have got to be more disruptive in opposing offensive backfields and he gives us the ability to do that.”

To play in the SEC you have to be cool and collected. To be a pass rusher, even more so. On their in-home visit in DC, Beamer and his staff found out that not even the “Saw” movies can phase Stewart.

“He’s very mature, focused and a great young man,” Beamer said. “We laugh because we were in his house last week. It was me, Clayton (White), Torrian (Gray), Sterling (Lucas) and Dylan had the Saw movies on TV and it was pretty gory, but he was just sitting there eating his dinner just matter-of-factly, just watching the movie. I was like ‘That’s the kinda guy I want rushing the other team’s passer and affecting the other team’s quarterbacks.'”

Stewart joins an EDGE room headlined by JT Geer as well as fellow DMV area native Desmond Umeozulu. The Gamecocks also added Kyle Kennard out of Georgia Tech and the transfer portal.

“Torrian’s over there on the floor with some of the things happening to people in the movie and it didn’t phase Dylan at all,” Beamer said. “He’s made of the right stuff and an awesome player that can’t wait to get him here and add to that d-line room.”
