Shane Beamer's message to fan base about South Carolina's recruiting
Just like this fan base, Shane Beamer is hungry to land another commitment. On Thursday during SEC Media Days, Beamer reminded South Carolina fans that when it comes to recruiting, you have to look at the whole picture.
“Do I wish that we have had more Welcome Home tweets in the month of July? Absolutely,” said Beamer. “The month isn’t over, so we’ll see what happens. You just realize that it’s a marathon. Signing Day is five months away. There’s a lot that’s going to happen between now and then.”
After missing on a pair of prospects in a span of a week, South Carolina hasn’t landed a commitment in nearly a month. Their most recent came on June 26 with the commitment of three-star safety defensive back David Bucey.
Sure, it’s disappointing anytime you miss out on a recruit. But because of strong start to the 2024 class, USC is still ranked in the top 20 on On3’s 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

“I’m itching for it too. You realize that it’s a marathon. I think our fan base, and anyone that follows recruiting, needs to take a look back and realize the amount of guys that we have that we have committed (for the 2024 class) that every team in the country would love to have committed to their roster right now. That was a really big deal then and it’s still a really big deal now.”

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
So far, South Carolina has landed eight four-star commitments. That includes the nation’s No.1 offensive tackle (Josiah Thompson) and three others who rank top ten at their position. They’re always in the running to land some additional highly touted recruits in the coming weeks and months.

Since Beamer arrived, South Carolina has only seen their recruiting ranking improve each year. In 2021, the Gamecocks were ranked No.72. The following year, USC shot up to No.28. In 2023, South Carolina finished with the 16th best recruiting class in the nation.
“It’s not like we’re not in the mix for guys. I learned a long time ago as a coach — as a competitor, I don’t like losing anybody. Don’t get me wrong. But I learned a long time ago as a coach that you’re gonna lose more kids than you get in recruiting.

“We’ve lost some guys who’ve chose to go elsewhere over the last month or so where they chose to stay with their in-state school or they go to play for the defending national champion or whoever it might be. I don’t like that but let’s not forget about the guys that have been committed to for the bulk of the 2024 (recruiting season). And, we have a long ways to go until (Signing Day in) December.”
