Shane Beamer's mindset is 'to attack' the transfer portal
The transfer portal made a huge impact for the Gamecocks this season with additions like Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, Torricelli Simpkins III, Kyle Kennard and Demetrius Knight Jr. With the window being open following the 2024 season, head coach Shane Beamer has plans to attack it yet again.
Some players from other schools who have already entered the portal have caught the eye of Beamer and his staff.
“There’s guys that have already announced that they’re going in the portal,” Beamer said on Sunday, “which some of those were certainly eager to talk to them. It’ll be good to be able to connect with them tomorrow for the first time as well and then we’ll see what happens.”
To make improvements for 2025, the coaching staff knows what they will be losing. They also know what they have to do to make up for any losses.

“We’ll see what happens. It’s the beginning of the portal window,” Beamer said. “But we’ve talked about it as a staff, certainly we’ve got to attack the portal and we’ve got to get better.”

The transfer portal played a huge role in improving the team from last season. The big thing that South Carolina did was find the diamonds in the rough — the players who weren’t on every school’s radar. The Gamecocks found that in players like Knight and Simpkins, who both came from smaller programs.
“Look at the guys that we brought in from the portal last year,” Beamer said. “Two of the most impactful guys that we’ve had, Torricelli Simpkins and Demetrius Knight. Those were two guys that we didn’t even add until late in the portal window being open.”
However, there is a process for the Gamecocks. The winter portal does not close until Dec. 28. And then the spring window will be open from Apr. 16-25.
“So, we’re not going to attack everything tomorrow where we’re done with our football team by tomorrow night,” Beamer said. “It’s a process but certainly there’s some guys that we’re eager to talk to tomorrow.”
