Sights & Sounds: South Carolina football practice No.4

On Monday, South Carolina football held their fourth practice of the preseason camp for the 2023 season.

The media was granted access to observe the six seven periods. Below are some of the sights and sounds from practice No. 4 as well as some quick takeaways.

• Energy was high. Some pushing and shoving during 11-on-11, which is normal in camp, nothing overboard
• Ahmarean Brown and Landon Samson handled punt return duties
• Jordan Strachan moving around well as he returns from an ACL injury a year ago
• During a 1-on-1 drill, Spencer Rattler threw a beauty to TE Joshua Simon
• That same clip also says a lot about what they think about true freshman Jalon Kilgore. We would refer to that as “sudden change.” Shane Beamer had the team run down to the red zone and in-between 11-on-11 and the next period did two quick 1-on-1s. Kilgore was called upon to be in there for one of them. Solid coverage but just a great throw and catch by Rattler to Simon.
• More on Simon: after going back & watching more of practice, he plays extremely physical & enjoys contact. Still a long ways to go but knowing how both TE coach Jody Wright, as well as WR coach Justin Stepp preach blocking to their respective units, don’t overlook the run game getting a boost from USC’s WRs/TEs being physical on the perimeter.
