South Carolina adds transfer portal forward

Just a few days after landing the first portal commitment of the cycle, South Carolina added up another one today. The Gamecocks picked up a commitment from Stephen Clark, a forward who began his career at The Citadel and comes to South Carolina with one year of eligibility left.
Clark averaged 16.3 points on 49.2 percent shooting this season while shooting 22.4 percent from three and 67.2 percent from the line. He finished with a 20.1 player efficiency rating (PER) and 2.4 win shares.

The 6-foot-8 big man shot 52.6 percent from two on 11.8 attempts per game. He averaged 1.8 blocks per game and 2.8 assists. On3 considers him a three-star portal prospect.
It certainly fills a need for South Carolina, which ranked No. 330 nationally out of 363 teams in two-point percentage (45.8 percent) and No. 295 in offensive block rate (10.3).
The Gamecocks were No. 320 in two-point defense (53.7 percent) and No. 274 in opponent block rate (7.1).
Clark joins Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk, Josh Gray and freshman Collin Murray-Boyles in the frontcourt this upcoming season.

He’s the second transfer from The Citadel to come to South Carolina since Lamont Paris took over.
Hayden Brown was on last year’s squad. He averaged 11.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 43.9 percent from the field. The two were on the same Citadel team for three seasons.
Clark becomes the second addition out of the portal for South Carolina, joining Minnesota point guard Ta’Lon Cooper.

Cooper averaged almost 10 points per game last year while finishing top 10 nationally in assists per game at 6.3.
As it stands right now after Clark’s commitment, the Gamecocks have three scholarships left to use for next season’s roster.
Cooper and Clark are set to come in from the transfer portal but South Carolina will also enroll two true freshmen: Murray-Boyles and Arden Conyers.
Murray-Boyles is coming off a strong season at Wasatch (Utah) Academy that saw him leap to four-star status and the No. 98 player in the 2023 class in On3’s rankings.
On3’s Industry rankings also have Murray-Boyles the No. 135 player in the class and a three-star prospect.
