National junior college player of the year Sakima Walker has committed to South Carolina.
Walker made the announcement on social media Friday, even beating Dawn Staley’s requisite “Birdie” tweet.
Walker averaged 16.7 points and 8.2 rebounds last season. She led Northwest Florida State to the juco national championship and was named player of the year for her efforts.

A 6-5 post, Walker adds valuable depth to the South Carolina front court. The Gamecocks return just three players: SEC Sixth Woman of the Year Kamilla Cardoso, and talented but unproven forwards Ashlyn Watkins and Sania Feagin.
The daughter of NBA champion Samaki Walker, Sakima began her career at Rutgers, where she played 32 games across two seasons and averaged 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game.

Due to her COVID season, Walker has two years of eligibility remaining. Walker visited South Carolina earlier in April. She also visited Ole Miss.

Walker is another transfer pickup in the same vein as Kierra Fletcher, who started the majority of last season at point guard for the Gamecocks. Neither is a coveted transfer, but each fills a precise need to complement the Gamecocks’ existing roster.
Walker is South Carolina’s second transfer addition of the spring, following former Oregon guard Te-Hina Paopao. With Aneesah Morrow apparently headed to LSU, South Carolina isn’t known to have recruited any other transfers still on the market.
