Less than 24 hours after the MLB Draft, South Carolina has added another pitcher from the JUCO ranks.

The Gamecocks earned a commitment from left-handed pitcher Aydin Palmer on Wednesday. Palmer made the news official on his X account.

“Next chapter, beyond grateful and excited for what’s ahead,” Palmer said in his commitment post.

Palmer previously played for Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he went 9-3 with a 4.18 ERA in 14 starts. He struck out 77 and walked 30 in 60.1 innings pitched. He finished with 11.49 K/9.

Palmer becomes the eighth pitcher to join the Gamecocks from JUCO/transfer portal. The Gamecocks have seemingly put a big emphasis on bringing in more left-handed pitching with only three returning for next season. He’s now the fifth lefty added this offseason.

Class of 2024 signee Beau Hollins will stick with his commitment and join the Gamecocks starting in the fall. It’s a huge win for Paul Mainieri and co. after both top signees PJ Morlando and Carson Messina were drafted and likely headed to the pros.

“#stayinghome GAMECOCK NATION, Let’s do this,” Hollins posted on his Instagram story.

Hollins will follow in the footsteps of his father, Dave, who also played at South Carolina from 1985-87. Dave went on to put together a 12-year career at the big league level, spending the majority of his time with the Philadelphia Phillies. His uncle, Paul, also played for the Gamecocks from 1978-81.

During his time at River Bluff (S.C.) High School, Hollins, who stands at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, played first base but also pitched.
