South Carolina baseball lost its fifth consecutive SEC contest on Sunday as Texas A&M completed a sweep in College Station. On Tuesday, the Gamecocks earned a little bit of relief with a mid-week shutout win over The Citadel. The much-needed win moved USC to 21-17 overall. However, their record remains a meager 2-13 in SEC play.

The road doesn’t get easier for Carolina. This weekend, they will play host to the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels at Founders Park.

Resume Check: Ole Miss Rebels

Record: 27-10 (9-6 in SEC)
D1Baseball Ranking: 11th
Last Week: 1-2 series loss to Tennessee in Oxford; 3-7 mid-week loss to Arkansas-Little Rock in Oxford

Mike Bianco’s Ole Miss Rebels team is really good this season, but they will enter this weekend having lost three out of four games. The Rebs have overachieved as the league’s coaches picked them to finish 15th in the conference this offseason.

The winning started early this year as Ole Miss picked up some impressive out-of-conference victories. Just in February, the Rebels knocked off Arizona and Clemson in neutral-site games and Southern Miss at home. All three of those wins were against ranked opponents.

Starting pitcher Hunter Elliott was the only Ole Miss player to crack the preseason All-SEC team, but he’s not the only Rebel playing at an all-conference level right now.

On the mound, Elliott’s the only starter having a consistent season, but several relievers have been excellent at limiting opponents. Led by Connor Spencer’s microscopic 0.66 ERA and 0.95 WHIP and Mason Morris’ 44 strikeouts in 30.2 innings, the Ole Miss ‘pen has a ton of live arms. Not all have been as good as Spencer and Morris, though, as five relievers on the team have at least 10 appearances but ERAs north of 6.00.

Offensively, Ole Miss has been a middle-of-the-pack SEC team in 2025. However, middle-of-the-pack in the SEC is still pretty good. The top hitters in the order have been major power threats as six Rebels have at least seven long balls this season, paced by Judd Utermark’s 11. Isaac Humphrey, Mitchell Sanford, and Ryan Moerman all have logged at least 20 extra-base hits, as well. As a team, Ole Miss doesn’t mind being aggressive on the base paths as they rank in the top half of the SEC in steals and attempts.

South Carolina baseball coach Paul Mainieri hasn’t revealed his team’s rotation for the weekend. However, after the win over The Citadel, he said Brandon Stone “would be a part of it.” Stone did not pitch at all last weekend against Texas A&M. Jake McCoy, Matthew Becker, and Dylan Eskew started that series, and none of them pitched on Tuesday.

The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels will play three games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this weekend. On Thursday, Founders Park will host the series opener at 6:30 p.m. Friday’s game two shouldn’t interfere much with the Garnet and Black Spring Game for the football team as first pitch is at 4:00 p.m. The series finale on Saturday will begin at 2:00 p.m. None of the three contests will be televised, but all three will be available via streaming on SEC Network+.
