South Carolina baseball set to play pair of scrimmages this fall
South Carolina baseball will take part in two scrimmages against other Division I programs this fall, the program announced on Wednesday.
The Gamecocks will host Air Force on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Founders Park. This contest will be free and open to the public. It also comes during South Carolina football’s bye week.
Air Force is coming off a losing season in which it finished 27-28 in 2024. The Falcons are led by head coach Mike Kazlausky, who is going into his 15th season with the program.
Well before coming to South Carolina, Gamecocks head coach Paul Mainieri coached at Air Force from 1989-94. He’s the second-winningest coach in program history with a 152-158 record. It’s also important to note that Kazlausky played under Mainieri for three seasons and then was on his coaching staff for two seasons.
South Carolina’s second fall scrimmage will take place against Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. The Gamecocks will travel to Patriots Point, which is where the Cougars play their home games. This will be the first time these two teams will play against each other since 2018.

Much like the Air Force matchup, it’s another reunion of sorts when these teams face off. Charleston head coach Chad Holbrook will get the chance to face his former team. Holbrook was an assistant on Ray Tanner’s staff from 2009-12 and helped the Gamecocks win a pair of national championships. He went on to become the head coach at South Carolina for the following five seasons, compiling a 200-106 record with two Super Regional appearances.
The Cougars finished 41-14 overall and 21-5 in CAA play in 2024. They finished atop the conference and made it all the way to the championship game but were notably left out of the NCAA Tournament field.
According to South Carolina’s press release, “The NCAA started in 2018 to allowed Division I baseball teams to play two fall scrimmages against outside opponents without counting against the spring schedule.”
These two scrimmages count towards the Gamecocks’ fall practice schedule. Full team practice will begin on Monday, Sept. 30.
