Gamecock closer leaving South Carolina baseball via transfer portal

Right-handed pitcher Brendan Sweeney is the latest Gamecock name to surface as a player planning to leave South Carolina baseball via the transfer portal. College Baseball Central’s Andrew Riedell first reported the news, saying that the closer has entered the portal.
Sweeney spent one year in Columbia following a transfer from Blinn College, picking Carolina over offers from Texas and other major programs. He showcased some good stuff on the mound (34 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched), but like much of the 2025 Gamecock season, his results were inconsistent. The big relief pitcher finished the season with an 8.53 ERA, a 1-3 overall record, and six saves.
Sweeney is the 13th Gamecock to enter the transfer portal, which opened on Monday and will remain open through July 1 for all players to enter.
