How former Gamecocks are performing in the MiLB

Multiple former South Carolina baseball players have extended their careers by playing in the minor leagues.

Here’s how they are doing.

Braylen Wimmer- Fresno Grizzlies

Braylen Wimmer was drafted in 2023 by the Colorado Rockies and now resides with their Single-A affiliate the Fresno Grizzlies. In 2024, Wimmer put together a .301 batting percentage in 256 at bats with 10 homers.

In addition, Wimmer hit 41 RBIs with a .368 on base percentage. Recently, Wimmer received California League Player of the Month for the month of June. In 2024, Wimmer has started 35 games at third base and 27 at shortstop.

Jack Mahoney- Fresno Grizzlies

Getting drafted No.77 overall, the Colorado Rockies selected Jack Mahoney RHP. Joining his fellow Gamecock teammate, Mahoney has been a powerful arm for the Grizzlies.

In June, Mahoney was named California League Pitcher of the Month pitching a 2.96 ERA in 13 starts. Just in June alone, Mahoney pitched a 1.05 ERA over four starts going 1-0.

Friday June 21, Mahoney threw his first complete game of his MiLB career helping the Grizzlies win 8-0.

Will Sanders- South Bend Cubs

Right-handed pitcher Will Sanders was drafted No. 113 overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 2023 draft. Sanders finds himself with Chicago’s High-A Affiliate the South Bend Cubs.

In 51 innings pitched and 13 starts, Sanders has earned a 4.94 ERA with 57 strikeouts. Sanders has only allowed 24 walks and 28 earned runs in his career with the South Bend Cubs.

James Hicks- Corpus Christi Hooks

The Houston Astros selected James Hicks No. 404 overall in the 2024 and sent him to their Double-A Affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks. With the Hooks, Hicks has appeared in 14 games starting just seven.

In 60.2 innings pitched, Hicks has earned a 3.26 ERA with 66 strikeouts and a 1.27 whip.

Noah Hall- Brooklyn Cyclones

As the No. 216 overall pick, the New York Mets selected Noah Hall. Hall is now with the teams High-A Affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Hall has struggled on the mound appearing in just four games and 12 total innings pitched. In addition, Hall has earned a 10.50 ERA with only 12 strikeouts.

However Hall was placed on the 7-day injury list on April 26th but was moved to the 60-day injury list on May 12.

Cade Austin- Tampa Tarpons

In the 2023 draft, Cade Austin found himself selected by the New York Yankees as the No. 582 overall pick. Austin, now with the Yankees Single-A Affiliate the Tampa Tarpons has been a successful reliever.

In 20 games played, Austin has pitched 39.1 innings with 42 strikeouts earning a 4.35 ERA.

Brady Allen- Erie SeaWolves

After being selected No. 149 overall by the Miami Marlins, Brady Allen is now with the Dodgers Double-A Affiliate the Erie SeaWolves. During 194 at bats in 2024, Allen has put together a .211 batting average with 24 RBIs.

Altogether in the minors, Allen has seen 1073 at bats batting .243 with 148 RBIs and 32 homers.

Josiah Sightler- Greensboro Grasshoppers

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Josiah Sightler No. 440 overall in 2022. Sightler has started in 37 games at first base for the Pirates High-A Affiliate the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

However in 164 at bats, Sightler has batted a only a .183 ERA with 25 RBIs and seven homers.

Luke Berryhill- Sugar Land Space Cowboys

As the No. 384 overall pick in the 2019 draft, Luke Berryhill was selected by the Cincinnati Reds. Now, the catcher resides with the Houston Astros Triple-A Affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

During 172 at bats in the 2024 season, Berryhill is batting a .233 batting average with 26 RBIs and 6 homers. Overall in 1051 career at bats, the catcher has put together a .254 batting average with 173 RBIs and 42 homers.

Julian Bosnic- Greensboro Grasshoppers

Alongside his teammate Sightler, Julian Bosnic finds himself with the Pittsburgh Pirates High-A Affiliate, the Greensboro Grasshoppers. After getting drafted No. 410 overall in 2022, Bosnic has pitched a 5.87 ERA in 15.1 innings in 2024.

However Bosnic is currently on the 7-Day injury list.

Jonah Bride- Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

In 2018, the Oakland Athletics selected Jonah Bride No. 683 overall. But Bride is now with the Miami Marlins Triple-A Affiliate, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

At third base, Bride has started 45 games and is batting .267 in 262 at bats. In addition, Bride also received 10 starts at first base, 9 at second base and 10 as a designated hitter in 2024.

Colin Burgess- West Michigan Whitecaps

Currently with the Dodgers High-A affiliate the West Michigan Whitecaps, Colin Burgess has been placed on the 60-Day injury list. But in 2023, Burgess saw 24 at bats batting .250 with 2 RBIs.

Noah Campbell- Nashville Sounds

Noah Campbell was drafted No. 564 overall in the 2017 draft but the Milwaukee Brewers. Campbell now plays for the Brewer’s Triple-A Affiliate the Nashville Sounds.

Overall in the minors, Campbell has taken 1003 at bats averaging .257. In 2024, Campbell has put together a .250 batting average with 29 RBIs and three homers.

Wes Clarke- Nashville Sounds

Alongside his teammate, Wes Clarke also currently resides with the Nashville Sound under the Brewers organization. In 197 at bats, Clarke has batted a .234 ERA with 9 homers and 35 RBIs.

Accordingly, with 16 starts at first base and 31 starts at designated hitter, Clark has been a big bat for the Sounds.

Carlos Cortes- Syracuse Mets

A low pick for the Mets, Carlos Cortes was selected No. 83 by the New York Mets and now plays for their Triple-A Affiliate. In his 1859 at bats, Cortes has batted .247.

But in 2024, Cortes has batted .279 with 25 RBIs and six homers. The outfielder has started in left field 13 times and right field 14 times on the season.

Eddy Demurias- Chattanooga Lookouts

A former right-handed pitcher for the Gamecocks, Eddy Demurias was drafted No. 799 overall in 2018 by the Cincinnati Reds. Now with their Double-A Affiliate, Demurias has pitched a 4.50 ERA in 2024 in 16 innings.

During his MiLB career, Demurias has pitched 259 strikeouts in 263 innings.

Thomas Farr- Chattanooga Lookouts

Following his Gamecock teammate, Thomas Farr was also drafted by the Cincinnati Reds but No. 150 overall in 2021. Farr, also a right-handed pitcher, has seen more action on the mound in 2024 than his teammate Demurias.

In 77 innings pitched, Farr has thrown a 4.91 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 15 games.

TJ Hopkins- Erie SeaWolves

As the No. 264 over pick in the 2019 draft, TJ Hopkins is now playing in the Dodger organization with their Double-A Affiliate the Erie SeaWolves. Hopkins has gotten 12 starts in right field and two in center in 2024.

At the plate, Hopkins has curated only a .190 batting average in 79 at bats. However Hopkins has landed a spot on the full season injury list for 2024.

Brett Kerry- Salt Lake Bees

In 2021, Los Angeles selected Brett Kerry No. 141 overall and he now resides with the teams Triple-A Affiliate, the Salt Lake Bees. In 15 games, Kerry has earned a 3-2 record with a 5.31 ERA. On the mound, he has pitched 68 strikeouts in 79.2 innings.

Daniel Lloyd- Aberdeen IronBirds

Daniel Lloyd, a 2021 No. 407 overall draft pick, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles. Now with their High-A Affiliate, Lloyd has thrown a 4.96 ERA in 16.1 innings.

Throwing just 10 strikeouts, Lloyd currently sits 0-1 on the season in 6 games.

Reid Morgan- Arkansas Travelers

In 2024, Morgan pitched a 5.72 ERA in 28.1 innings for Seattle’s Double-A Affiliate. Morgan was drafted No. 396 overall in 2019 after his career at South Carolina.

With 26 strikeouts on the season, Morgan has earned a 1-2 record.

Max Schrock- Free Agent

Max Schrock is currently a free agent after being drafted in 2015 by the Washington Nationals. Schrock also spent time with the Padres Triple-A Affiliate the El Paso Chihuahuas. In the MiLB, Schrock has seen 2141 at bats, batting .298 with 36 homers and 256 RBIs.

In the MLB, he batted .256 in 168 at bats hitting four homers with 16 RBIs.

TJ Shook- Biloxi Shuckers

Currently with the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A Affiliate the Biloxi Shuckers, TJ Shook has pitched 60.1 innings in 2024. In 15 games, Shook has pitched a 4.92 ERA going 4-7 with 71 strikeouts.
