South Carolina basketball needed to finish the non-conference slate strong, and it looks like they will do that. Last week, the Gamecocks went 2-0 to move to 9-3 on the season with just one more game remaining before SEC play begins. The Gamecocks have moved up to the 80s in the NET rankings. Below is a quick overview of last week and a look ahead at what is to come this week.

South Carolina Gamecocks reign supreme in Palmetto State with takedown of Clemson Tigers

Lamont Paris stayed undefeated at home against the rival Clemson Tigers last week. Just as was the case in 2022, the Gamecocks’ victory was hard-fought and came down to the wire.

Collin Murray-Boyles was sensational, scoring 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting (and 6-for-6 from the free throw line), pulling down nine rebounds, dishing out four assists, blocking two shots, and picking up one steal. Myles Stute and Nick Pringle were great, too, combining to go 14-for-17 for the field. Their 37 points included Stute’s five makes from behind the 3-point arc.

The victory was the best of the year for the Gamecocks. It was also Carolina’s first overtime win of the season.

Result: South Carolina won 91-88.

South Carolina Gamecocks ride 2nd half dominance to defeat Radford Highlanders

South Carolina came out flat against Radford. The Gamecocks trailed by six at the halftime intermission. Thankfully for USC, they dominated in the 2nd half and coasted to an easy win.

Murray-Boyles, Nick Pringle, and Jamarii Thomas all finished the game in double figures. The trio combined for 45 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the floor and 17-for-17 from the foul line. Thomas made 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line. CMB and Pringle also added 15 rebounds, five blocked shots, and seven assists.

As a team, USC shot 25-for-27 from the charity stripe and outrebounded Radford 42-24. Because of those numbers, it’s no surprise that Lamon Paris’s team was able to outscore the Highlanders by 32 points in the 2nd half.

Result: South Carolina won 74-48.
