South Carolina basketball star still earning NBA Draft 1st round projections

South Carolina basketball star sophomore Collin Murray-Boyles is having a tremendous second season in garnet and black. The Columbia native is averaging 16.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game while leading the Southeastern Conference in field goal percentage (65%). That production, partnered with above-average athleticism and wingspan (around 7 feet), makes the 6’8″, 245-pound Murray-Boyles a big-time prospect. It’s no wonder that the All-SEC forward remains high on the NBA Draft radar.

Following his breakout freshman campaign last year, Murray-Boyles earned a lot of 1st round grades this offseason. That has remained so through his hot start to the 2024-2025 season.
Tankathon’s latest NBA Draft mock moved CMB up a spot to No. 12. According to Tankathon, the Gamecock standout will be a lottery pick of the San Antonio Spurs. Only Asa Newell and Cooper Flagg (a combo forward) rank ahead of Murray-Boyles among power forwards.
For unknown reasons, CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone has dropped Murray-Boyles in his latest mock draft. Despite being 18th less than two weeks ago, the dynamic forward sits at No. 21 in both Boone’s prospect rankings and his mock draft. He has Murray-Boyles going 21st to the Orlando Magic as the fourth power forward selected.

Other mocks and projections predict a similar fate for Murray-Boyles. Because of his defensive ability and efficient offensive upside, No. 30 could be in for a long NBA career.

For now, though, Collin Murray-Boyles’ focus is on his Gamecocks. Murray-Boyles and South Carolina will take the floor once more before SEC play begins after the New Year. USC’s next contest is set for Tuesday, December 31st against Presbyterian College. The Blue Hose will travel to Colonial Life Arena for a 7:00 p.m. in-state matchup. SEC Network will broadcast the contest, and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming.
