South Carolina basketball: Devin Carter earns All-Freshman nod
For the third time in four years South Carolina will have a member of its team on the SEC’s All-Freshman team.
Gamecock guard Devin Carter earned All-Freshman honors it was announced Tuesday, joining AJ Lawson (2019) and Jermaine Couisanrd (2020) as the most recent Gamecocks to do it. Michael Carrera (2013) and Sindarius Thornwell (2014) also earned all-freshman team nods.
Carter had a standout first season in Columbia, averaging nine points and 3.8 boards while becoming a key piece to South Carolina’s team. He averaged 1.9 assists and almost a steal per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field.
He’s also joined on the list by Alabama’s Charles Dediako and JD Davidson, Jabari Smith from Auburn, TyTy Washington at Kentucky, Brandon Murray at LSU and Tennessee’s Kennedy Chandler and Zakai Zeigler.

The Gamecocks (18-12, 9-9 SEC) finished tied for fifth in the SEC this year and will play Mississippi State at 6 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the league tournament.
