South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris wants Palmetto State natives on his team. At the team’s media day in October, assistant Carey Rich told GamecockCentral that in-state recruiting efforts were a major priority for the current era of the program. With eight in-state players on this year’s team, it seems like those words are legitimate.

Paris and company continued backing up those claims further on Tuesday. Ridge View High School product Korie Corbett announced on social media that he had received a Gamecock offer.

The offer comes as no surprise to those who follow high school basketball in the Palmetto State. Corbett is the unanimous top prospect in South Carolina in the class of 2026. At 6’4″ and possessing plus-athleticism, Corbett has an impressive physical profile on the wing. The Columbia native also is No. 78 nationally, regardless of position, and 23rd among America’s shooting guards.

As a player, Corbett has nearly unlimited offensive potential. He can score from all three levels but might be at his best as a slasher attacking the basket. He’s a good athlete but also has some crafty wiggle to his handle that allows him to get by all different types of defenders.

Corbett has some intriguing qualities as a defender, as well. The 6’4″ and 185-pound wing has enough size to hold up against most perimeter players, and his excellent anticipation and quick hands allow him to rack up steals against less-than-crisp passes that cross the court near him (he’s also a one-man fastbreak when he picks off a pass at the top of the key).

Korbett has a solid shooting touch, and he can make tough and contested shots. The talented guard has a knack for knocking down the old-school midrange, but he can stretch the floor out to the 3-point line, too. Near the basket, he is not a “post scorer,” necessarily. However, he has good footwork and enough length to get good looks at the hoop.

The Gamecocks were not the first SEC offer for Korie Corbett. The Ole Miss Rebels offered him early and could be a serious player in his recruitment. With another year and a half left in high school, though, Corbett will have plenty of opportunities to hear from Coach Paris and his staff before making his decision.

South Carolina has three players on the current roster from the Columbia area. Collin Murray-Boyles (AC Flora), Arden Conyers (Westwood), and Cam Scott (Lexington) all committed to the Gamecocks in the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes. If Corbett winds up donning garnet and black, he could be the next homegrown talent to turn into a star for South Carolina basketball.
