Elite South Carolina basketball recruiting targets stand out at The Bash
Two of the best young high school basketball players in the country play in South Carolina. Class of 2026 guard Korie Corbett (Ridge View High School; Columbia) and class of 2027 wing Josh Leonard (Wilson High School; Florence) both hold Gamecock offers and should be viewed as priority targets for the home-state program.
The Bash, an annual tournament in the Midlands that current South Carolina assistant Carey Rich helped get off the ground, welcomed some of the top teams from around the country to the Palmetto State this weekend. Future Gamecocks Eli Ellis and Hayden Assemian (Moravian Prep) made an appearance, earning a win over Ridge View High School.

Corbett and Leonard, though, stuck around for more than one game.
Corbett had a solid defensive showing against Ellis, Assemian, and Moravian Prep. Then, he was the catalyst behind Ridge View’s comeback win over Drive Academy as he scored 18 points in the second half of that contest. Following the first two days of the three-day event, On3’s Jamie Shaw ranked Corbett No. 2 among all players through two games.

While Corbett was No. 2, Shaw named Leonard his MVP through the first two days of competition. Leonard’s Wilson squad beat Huntington Prep (West Virginia), and the sophomore stud led the charge. Leonard finished the game with 33 points and 14 rebounds. He had another big game in a come-from-behind win over Drive Academy.

As prospects, both Palmetto State natives are recruiting industry darlings. On3’s industry ranking ranks Corbett as the No. 79 recruit in the 2026 cycle and the No. 21 shooting guard. The industry ranking is even higher on Leonard, placing him at No. 9 overall and No. 4 among small forwards in the class of 2027. Both Corbett and Leonard are the top-ranked players in South Carolina in their respective classes.
The Gamecocks are working hard to try to keep the Palmetto State hoopers home.
