Former LSU Tigers forward Corey Chest, Jr.–who entered the transfer portal on Monday–has heard from South Carolina, he told Recruits Zone’s Blake Smith. The rising redshirt sophomore was a former 4-star prospect in the class of 2023.

During the 2024-2025 season, Chest averaged 6.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocked shots. He led LSU in rebounding and blocks while shooting over 60% from the field. Against Alabama in January, he pulled down 15 rebounds in one half, finishing the game with 18.

Chest logged four double-doubles this season. He also has secured a double-digit rebounding total in every game of his career in which he has played at least 30 minutes. As good as he is as a defensive rebounder, he’s even better on the offensive glass, logging a 14.1% offensive rebounding percentage this season.

South Carolina basketball transfer portal resources:

Chest is not a 3-point threat, but the 6-8, 220-pound forward is aggressive near the basket as a dunker and shot-follower. Illustrating that point, 98% of his shots came at the rim or in the paint this season. With his athleticism, Chest likes to run the floor in transition or sneak behind the defense for backdoor cuts leading to dunks in the halfcourt. He also doesn’t mind putting the ball on the deck as he barrels his way toward the rim.

Most of the SEC (plus some other big-time programs) have also expressed interest in recruiting Chest this transfer cycle. South Carolina needs to add a player at virtually every position during the offseason.
