South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris and his staff have been very active in reaching out to players in the transfer portal in recent days. The portal opened officially for underclassmen on Monday, and one of the transfers on the Gamecocks’ radar is former Binghamton forward Gavin Walsh.

247Sports’ Luke Chaney reported that Walsh has heard from the Gamecocks, rival Clemson Tigers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Southern Cal Trojans, and a slew of mid-major programs.

The Baltimore, Maryland native has played two seasons at Binghamton. He played a rotational role as a freshman before becoming an All-America East performer as a sophomore.

During the 2024-2025 season, Walsh averaged a double-double with 11.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He also chipped in with 1.9 assists and nearly a steal per game. His effort on the glass is remarkable as he posted three games this year with at least 19 rebounds.

At 6-8, Walsh is long enough to play down low but has enough skill to operate on the perimeter. He showcases solid athleticism as a downhill driver and as a useful roll man. Though the combo forward didn’t shoot a great percentage from outside, he is a threat from the perimeter, too, as he took 75 3-pointers this season.

Walsh is not a rim protector, but he can hold his own from a strength standpoint when matched up on traditional bigs. His defensive value comes more from securing defensive rebounds than it does from being an on-ball stopper.

South Carolina will continue being active in the portal throughout the spring. As of now, the Gamecocks have at least five open scholarships to work with this cycle.
