South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris will be overhauling his roster this offseason. With seven players already gone from the program due to graduation or the transfer portal (and more attrition possible), the 2025-2026 version of the Gamecocks will look much different. However, after a 12-20 record last season, a new look is a good thing.

The transfer portal will be a major provider of new faces for USC. Per reporting from Workin’ It Hoops, one of the transfers South Carolina has checked in on is big guard Hasan Abdul Hakim.

Abdul-Hakim, a senior who spent the last two seasons at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, is 6-8 and 215 pounds. His size makes him extremely versatile, as he played multiple roles for the Vaqueros this season before leaving the team for personal reasons.

Before hitting the portal mid-year, Abdul Hakim averaged 13.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He has the size and athletic ability to defend multiple positions and become a potential mismatch on the other end of the floor against most types of defenders.

A Canada native, Abdul Hakim has heard from several other power programs, including Arizona State and Memphis, per the report. He should have one more year of eligibility based on the NCAA’s new stance on former junior college athletes.

South Carolina’s roster attrition from last season allows for the Gamecocks to take transfers at any position. However, guard and center appear to be the team’s biggest positional needs.
