South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris is in the market for some transfer portal upgrades this offseason. One particular emphasis likely will be the point guard position. With that thought in mind, according to Transfer Portal Report, the Gamecocks have reached out to former Pepperdine guard Moe Odum.

Odum, who began his career at Pacific, is one of the best passers in the transfer portal. This season, he averaged 7.5 assists. However, just because he excels at running the offense doesn’t mean Odum can’t score. In fact, he scored 13.1 points per game while making 38% of his 3-point attempts this year. He also chipped in 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Odum played his best basketball down the stretch this season. In the West Coast Conference Tournament, he averaged 21.5 points and 9.25 assists in the Wave’s semifinal run. He also shot 55.7% from the field and 48.3% from the 3-point line.

Pepperdine didn’t have much else other than Odum (forward Stefan Todorovich was the only other player on the team to receive all-conference votes), so the team didn’t win much. Despite the losing, teams are intrigued by the idea of adding Odum via the transfer portal.

He also told TPR that he has received interest from Kansas, St. John’s, Baylor, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Santa Clara. Other teams are sure to be involved, too, as Odum might be the best pure point guard in the portal.

USC expects to be an aggressive transfer portal team this offseason. The Gamecocks have several holes to fill on the roster and an improved NIL budget with which to attack those holes.
