South Carolina has reached out to Charlotte 49ers transfer portal guard Nik Graves, the 6-3 North Carolina native confirmed on social media. Originally from Durham, he played his high school ball in Greensboro and has spent his entire college career in Charlotte.

Considered by some outlets an all-league performer in the American Athletic Conference, Graves averaged 17.5 points this season. He also chipped in with 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Graves isn’t the most efficient scorer (41.7%/32.8% shooting splits), but he can make up for it with some hot streaks and an impressive knack for getting to the free throw line for easy points. The lefty plays a downhill game and can finish on either side of the basket. He seeks out contact near the rim, putting pressure on opposing defenses and their depth.

Graves scored in double-figures in all but two games this season. He also had a pair of 30-point outbursts and five games with at least five assists.

On defense, Graves isn’t elite, but is long enough and strong enough to keep up in most guard matchups. He can be physical on that end of the floor and isn’t afraid of banging with bigger players on switches.

USC will be involved with a long list of guards during this transfer portal cycle. The Gamecocks also expect to be more competitive from an NIL perspective than they were last offseason when they missed out on several of their top transfer targets.
